Looking for a sculptural Black male subject for a project emphasizing defined muscular definition Age requirement: 18-42 This is a sketch project that connects the physical strength of the body with the historical, foundational strength of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Theme: HBCU Athletics and Intellectual Foundations. The sketch series would portray the model in poses that evoke classic sculpture and athletic, functional movement, symbolizing both the endurance of Black intellectual history and the physical training required for a modern "HBCU homecoming" aesthetic. Setting: In a studio against a backdrop inspired by Aaron Douglas murals (linear, silhouettes of collegiate life). Muscular Focus: Emphasize the back, shoulders, and core to represent "carrying the weight" of history, as well as the legs for "standing firm." Specific Poses: The "HBCU Founder": Seated in a stoic, thinking pose (similar to Rodin's The Thinker), but with a regal, upright posture, wearing only a classic collegiate letterman letter (e.g., "S" for Spelman, "H" for Hampton, "M" for Morehouse) held against the chest. The "Modern Athlete": A dynamic, athletic pose—standing with arms strained as if holding a barbell or in a starting-block runner pose, showcasing the muscular definition required for competitive collegiate sports. The "Alumni Statue": A contrapposto stance with one hand resting on a stack of books and the other holding a small segment of a baton, representing the bridge between academic and physical training. Introduction & Art Knowledge (2 mins): The model states their name, experience, and their interest in the HBCU theme (to ensure comfort with the historical context). Facial Profiles & Skin/Muscle Tone Check (2 mins): A full-body check from various angles in neutral lighting to see how skin sits on the muscles, particularly for studies of the back and shoulders. Active Posing Demonstration (4 mins): The model is asked to perform: One 30-second "gesture pose" (dynamic movement). One 1-minute "holding pose" (e.g., kneeling on one knee with a strong back line). Discussion of Comfort & Logistics (2 mins): Confirmation of ability to hold poses for 15-20 minutes, including long, static poses. Audition Fee: Prospective model is paid flat fee (e.g., $50-$75) for 10-15 minute FaceTime call, paid via Venmo/CashApp upon completion of audition Facetime Audition Requirements (Pre-Session): Because the concept requires specific muscular definition and the ability to hold difficult poses, a FaceTime audition is required to ensure suitability and comfort. Pose 1 (Flexed): A standing bicep pose, focusing on upper body definition. Pose 2 (Tension): A kneeling pose, engaging the core and thighs. Pose 3 (Range of Motion): A standing turn to showcase the profile and back muscles. Goal: To confirm muscle definition under lighting and evaluate the model's ability to maintain a confident, professional gaze while holding tension. To ensure professionalism, physical capability for long-duration holding of athletic poses, and to check for artistic compatibility, a FaceTime audition is required. Purpose: Anatomical Assessment: The trainer must have highly defined, athletic musculature (trainer/bodybuilder build). Pose Testing: To test his ability to hold intense athletic, "strained" positions without movement. Skin/Tattoos: To ensure the skin tone is suitable for charcoal sketching (high contrast) and to check for tattoos that might conflict with the "historical" theme. Safety/Etiquette: No Recording: Strict no-recording rule for both parties. Screening: The model is asked to strike 3 key poses, starting with a standing "gesture" pose for 2 minutes, followed by two 5-minute sustained, strenuous poses. Date: Prospective working date is sometime between April 29-May 7 (or potentially earlier) Can discuss exact date to accommodate your schedule This would take about 2 hours Just for clarity, I am commissioning this work specifically for personal use/enjoyment. It will not be utilized for any commercial purposes or reproduced for sale. Please send 2-3 professional-style, reference photos showing musculature —or a short video showing range of motion—to ensure this is a good fit for both of us Also include stats such as age, height, weight etc and any prior modeling experiences
